Causes of snoring Treatments for snoring RAUP
|
Radiofrequency-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (RAUP)RAUP is a quick, effective, office-based treatment that can stop snoring for good. Local anesthesia is applied while you are awake and seated comfortably. A laser or radio frequency (RF) energy is then used to reshape the uvula and palate. Each session takes about ten minutes. The treatment is spread over two to four sessions, each about four weeks apart. There is often dramatic improvement just after the first treatment. This procedure is called Radiofrequency-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (RAUP), or somnoplasty. What are the advantages? RAUP works! In 85% of patients, the snoring is eliminated, while an additional 12% report a significantly reduced level of snoring. There is minimal, if any, pain or bleeding. You can continue your normal daily activity as soon as you leave Dr. Alexander's office. Is it right for everyone? At the initial consultation, Dr. Alexander will determine if RAUP, or somnoplasty, is appropriate. He will rule out any nasal blockage and discuss the various treatments available. Dr. Alexander is specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, including the RAUP treatment. Are these procedures covered by insurance? Most insurance companies do not reimburse you for the treatment of snoring. However, the consultation, diagnosis (including a sleep study), and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea usually is covered. You should check with your insurance carrier for information about your specific benefits. |
