Allergy Questions and Answers The RAST Method
|
AllergiesIf you are one of the 15 million people who suffer from allergic rhinitis (hay fever), youve come to the right place! Dr. Alexanders training includes diagnosing and treating allergies of the nose and upper respiratory system. If an allergy workup is indicated, Dr. Alexander will begin by taking a history of allergy symptoms. He will try to determine if your allergies are seasonal or perennial (year-round). A physical exam may give further clues to the nature of your allergies. Allergy testing is the next step. Using the RAST technique, which requires only a quickly drawn blood sample, Dr. Alexander can get safe, accurate, convenient, and economical results. Test results are generally available within five days. Dr. Alexander will then discuss the results with you and begin immunotherapy (allergy shots) if needed. Injections are generally given once per week for 3-6 months then spread out to once or twice a month. By avoiding potential allergens, using appropriate medication, and receiving allergy immunotherapy, your allergies can be successfully controlled! |
