Facelifts
How it works Facelifts remove excess skin that is sagging on the face or neck. During the procedure, Dr. Alexander can also tighten the underlying tissues and remove fat. Once the excess skin is removed, the incision is closed along natural lines and creases to minimize visible scarring. Although some scarring is inevitable, these scars fade and become less noticeable over time. The procedure will take anywhere from two to five hours, and you will usually be given a local anesthetic and sedative to help you relax. In some cases, a general anesthesia may be given. Often, people opt to have multiple procedures done at the same time. For instance, during the facelift, you may also want eyelid surgery, nose revision, or other procedures. Recovery Afterward there is little discomfort. Pain medication can be prescribed in the event you need it. After a few days the bandages can be removed and stitches will be removed by the end of the week. (Stitches in your scalp may need to stay longer.) Within one to two weeks, most of the swelling and bruising will be gone. You will be able to move about after a day or two and can resume somewhat normal activities (like going to work) after about two weeks. Strenuous activities and more vigorous daily activity will take a few months to work up to. Rest is the most important thing to remember. It helps your body recover. Consultations Anyone considering facial plastic surgery should take the time to learn as much as possible about the procedures. Ask about a free cosmetic consultation with Dr. Alexander to discuss the procedures that might help you attain the appearance you want. |
