Facial Liposuction
This procedures, often called "Liposculpture," works best on patients who are at their preferred weight and have good skin elasticity. Dr. Alexander will consult with you to determine if you are a good candidate. Because we do not create many new fat cells after puberty, the effects of liposuction are usually permanent. If you gain weight after liposuction, it affects only the remaining fat cells. How it works Local anesthesia and mild sedatives are usually used for facial liposuction. Before Dr. Alexander begins the surgery, he will carefully mark the areas to be treated. Through tiny incisions in inconspicuous locations, Dr. Alexander inserts a small tube (called a cannula) under the skin in order to vacuum out the layer of fat beneath it. As the tube is moved carefully back and forth, the fat cells are broken up and suctioned out. Recovery You may need one or two small stitches to close the tiny incisions needed for the cannula. A snug elastic dressing will need to be worn over the treated area for a few days, and possibly at night for a few weeks. Rest for at least one day is recommended after the procedure. You may need to use cold compresses or mild pain relievers for a few days for any discomfort you may have. Most swelling disappears within a few weeks, but occasionally may last longer. Patients usually resume normal activities after two to four days. Consultations Anyone considering facial plastic surgery should take the time to learn as much as possible about the procedures. Ask about a free cosmetic consultation with Dr. Alexander to discuss the procedures that might help you attain the appearance you want. |
